Union Admiral Farragut with his armada of warships and ironclads steams into Mobile Bay on August 5, 1864. His ships exchange fire with Confederate Fort Morgan. The Union ironclad “Tecumseh” hits a Confederate torpedo and sinks. Farragut was then said to have expressed his now famous line, “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!” In the left foreground, the Confederate ram “Tennessee” steams towards the Union fleet and is captured hours later.
