Shows positions of Union and Confederate troops by the colors blue and red respectively, houses, names of residents, roads, relief by hachures, drainage, and vegetation. Bordering the map, there are "historical notes" concerning the surrender, "Gen. Lee's farewell to his army," and views of "Lee's Head-Quarters," "McLane's [i.e., McLean's] House," "Appomattox Court House," "place where the arms were stacked," and "Grant's Head-Quarters."
